Gary Sumihiro has extensive experience in start-ups, restructurings, technology, crisis management, media and government affairs.

Through an extensive network of technical and industry experts, Sumihiro Investments provides a customized suite of services ranging from business plan to capital review.

His career has progressed from attorney, General Counsel, Chief Operating Officer, President and member of the Board of Directors of large public and private corporations. He has done business in countries as diverse as Hungary, Mexico, Korea, Japan and China. He has been involved with public policy issues on the State, Federal and International levels on a wide range of issues. His startup experience has ranged from product and service introductions to national and international business launches. His transaction experience includes: $140 million NYSE initial public company offering; $150 million Japanese Secondary Offering; $60 million Olympic sponsorship; $350 million Japanese land and construction project; $50 million China manufacturing plant; $20 million German acquisition; and $25 million telecommunications joint venture.

Other projects include: the establishment of an internationally funded non-profit; clean technology startups; midstream LPG transactions; cybersecurity resilience programs and a global REIT offering. His transactions include: advising on the US strategy rollout of China’s fourth largest social platform; inbound technology investments including 5G and LTE; global agriculture nutrition programs; Japanese real estate acquisitions; Korean consumer product launches; pharmaceutical/medical foreign investment opportunities; Covid19 governmental and private consulting; and a global clean energy common share offering. 

Mr. Sumihiro is a graduate with honors and hold a Bachelors of Science, Juris Doctorate, and Masters in Public Administration degrees. He is the global strategic adviser and board member of US and international companies. 

Mr. Sumihiro is a frequent speaker and commentator on corporate and international affairs. He has spoken at colleges and universities as well as events ranging from the Economist to international trade conferences on topics ranging from pharmaceutical affairs law harmonization to crisis management. He was a judge at the 2021 U.S. Department of Commerce SelectUSA event and is a judge and speaker at this year’s event. He has worked with JETRO and several investment firms to review international investment pitches. He has been widely quoted in the media as an authority on foreign investment and international business. Most recently, he was appointed by the Secretary of Commerce to the United States Investment Advisory Council. In addition to living in Japan for 15 years, he has over 25 years of international experience in over 30 countries. 

Mr. Sumihiro was recently named to the National Small Business Association (NSBA) Leadership Council. NSBA is the nation’s oldest small-business advocacy organization and operates on a nonpartisan basis. Sumihiro, a recognized leader in the small-business community, joins the NSBA Leadership Council alongside other small-business advocates from across the country as they work to promote the interests of small business to policymakers in Washington, D.C.
